How to Get Rid of Hiccups
How quickly would you like to see your hiccups go away the next time? I found these secrets to stopping that unwelcoming and strange noise that you might not have heard of.
1. According to a letter in the New England Journal of Medicine, by sucking on a lemon wedge soaked in angostura bitters stopped 14 out of 16 hiccuppers. Or better yet, sucking on the lemon alone might also do the trick.
2. Holding your hands over you ears might stop hiccups. This will calm the the vague nerve that extends in the auditory system by ridding the hiccup pattern.
3. The remedy is to breath into a paper bag to increase the amount of carbon dioxide in your system that might stop hiccups.
4. Some say that drinking a glass of warm water quickly without stopping will cure hiccups.
5. Gargle with ice water. Reports show that cold will send hiccups into submission.
6. Change the rhythm of your breathing by eating either a teaspoon or tablespoon of sweetness such sugar, peanut butter, or honey.
7. Minimize the intake of spicy food and alcohol. If nothing seems to work try an antacid. If hiccups recur often see your a physician, this could be symptoms of acid reflux.
